BenchART.plymouth Benches To Be  Auctioned

as Finale to Successful Summer Project

PLYMOUTH, MICH. September 1, 2005 – They were the topic of conversation all summer long, and on Friday, September 23, from 7:00 pm-10:30 pm at the Plymouth Cultural Center, Plymouth Newcomers & Neighbors and the Plymouth Community Arts Council will auction off the one-of-a-kind BenchART.plymouth park benches in what promises to be a night packed with art, entertainment and significant fundraising for the Plymouth Community Arts Council and Plymouth and Plymouth Township.

Encompassing whimsical, fine art, landscape, sculpture and various other styles, the benches were custom painted by 30 local artists and then displayed throughout Plymouth and Plymouth Township at area parks, businesses and points of interest, resulting in a public art display that has received plenty of attention and accolades from residents and visitors alike.

“Since we kicked this project off in mid-June, we’ve had enormous public support and feedback,” says Plymouth Community Arts Council Executive Director Stella Greene. “Thanks to the talent of various local and regional artists and generous sponsorships by local businesses, we’ve been able to demonstrate that our community really is cutting-edge.  For a city and township of our size, it’s a real pleasure to be able to create this kind of attraction for children, adults, residents and visitors to enjoy. People have been very appreciative of the project, and now those who have had their eye on a favorite bench will get their opportunity to bring it home from the auction, while supporting their community at the same time.”

The evening will feature both live and silent auctions of the 15 adult and 19 child-size benches, as well as one “commission” for a custom bench from a BenchART.plymouth artist. The event will also feature live music, heavy hors d'oeuvres from E.G. Nick’s and Station 885, a cash bar, and a 50/50 raffle. Auction proceeds will benefit the PCAC, and the City and Township for beautification purposes.

A limited number of tickets is still available. Reservations are $10.

What is BenchArt.Plymouth

Local Artists, Patrons and Businesses Partner to Raise Money for Plymouth

PLYMOUTH, MICH. April 21,2005 – Chicago had cows, Cincinnati had pigs, Cleveland had guitars —now the City of Plymouth and Plymouth Township have joined forces to adorn their community with festive, eye-catching pop art. This summer’s public art display project, called BenchART.plymouth, is co-sponsored by Plymouth Newcomers & Neighbors and the Plymouth Community Arts Council.

What is this project?

From June through September, custom-painted park benches will be displayed throughout Plymouth and Plymouth Township. The project, supported by donations of talent by various local artists and bench sponsors (through monetary donations).

Will the benches be available for sale?

Yes!  This project will culminate with an auction of the painted benches at the Plymouth Cultural Center on September 23, 2005. There will also be a limited number of small benches available for sale at Art in the Park.  Auction proceeds will go to PCAC, and the City and Township for beautification purposes.

How many benches are being displayed?

There will be 15 large (adult) benches and 15 child-size benches on display.

Who benefits from this project?

Everyone! The general public will enjoy viewing the benches from June through September. Auction proceeds will go to PCAC, and the City and Township for beautification purposes. The City, Township, sponsors and artists will enjoy great publicity.

BenchART.plymouth has been endorsed by both Plymouth Township and the City of Plymouth. “I think this is another fantastic way to bring people to our wonderful community,” said Plymouth Township Supervisor Richard Reaume. “The benches will be a fun, attractive addition to our area this summer, and will undoubtedly bring additional attention to our retailers and restaurants.”

Can I sponsor a bench?

We are happy to announce that all benches have been sponsored.  We want to thank all our sponsors for their generous support of this project

·          Bench display throughout local parks and nearby businesses from mid-June through September

·          A plaque on the bench recognizing the sponsor and the artist while on display

·        2 tickets to the auction event as well as an invitation for the Kick-Off event where all benches will be displayed for viewing prior to their public placement

Note from the BenchART.Plymouth Committee and Plymouth Community Arts Council
